Connection & Security

When opened, the Mac app:

  • Starts a secure receiver on a random network port.
  • Advertises itself as "DroidToMac" on the local network.
  • Displays a QR code for pairing a new Android device.
  • Uses TLS encryption and certificate-based pairing.
  • Remembers approved Android devices for future connections.
  • Allows only one Android device to stream at a time.
  • Supports Wi-Fi and USB through an ADB reverse tunnel.

Video & Audio Playback

Once Android connects, the Mac app:

  • Receives H.264 screen video and AAC playback audio.
  • Uses Apple VideoToolbox for hardware-accelerated video decoding.
  • Renders the phone screen inside the macOS window.
  • Plays captured Android media/game audio through the Mac.
  • Synchronizes video with audio and avoids accumulating latency.
  • Shows waiting, stopped, reconnecting, and decoder-error states.
  • Automatically reconnects after temporary Wi-Fi or USB interruptions.

Playback Controls

The Mac playback bar provides:

  • Play live stream.
  • Stop local playback without disconnecting Android.
  • Mute and unmute Mac playback.
  • App-specific volume control.
  • Wi-Fi or USB connection indicator.
  • Screenshot button.
  • Start and stop recording.
  • Additional controls through the More menu.

Recording & Screenshots

The Mac app can:

  • Save screenshots of the currently decoded Android screen.
  • Record H.264 video and AAC audio into an MP4 file.
  • Show recording duration and file size.
  • Wait for a valid video keyframe before recording begins.
  • Reveal the completed recording in Finder.
  • Remember the selected recording folder.

Quality & Stream Stats

Available quality presets include: Automatic, Low, Balanced, and High. Automatic adjusts settings back to Android.

The statistics panel displays:

  • Wi-Fi or USB transport
  • Estimated latency
  • Frames per second (FPS)
  • Video bitrate
  • Sender queue pressure
  • Dropped video frames
  • Wi-Fi signal/link information

Desktop Features

The macOS app also includes:

  • Fit, Fill, and Actual Size display modes.
  • Full-screen mode & Always-on-top mode.
  • Automatic window resizing when Android rotates.
  • Auto-hiding playback controls & Menu-bar connection controls.
  • Remembered volume, mute, quality, display, statistics, and window settings.

Keyboard Shortcuts:

  • Space Play or Stop
  • M Mute or unmute
  • ↑ / ↓ Adjust volume
  • Ctrl+Cmd+F Full screen

USB Mode

For USB streaming, the Mac app:

  • Finds Android SDK Platform Tools/ADB.
  • Lists connected physical Android devices.
  • Detects unauthorized or disconnected phones.
  • Creates an ADB reverse tunnel to the secure receiver.
  • Opens DroidToMac on Android using its USB pairing link.
  • Recreates the tunnel when the cable reconnects.
